How to play Goalpost
Two posts are dealt. You bet that the next card, the kicker, lands strictly between them. Win and you take your stake from the shared pot; miss and your stake joins it.
The table
A table seats 2 to 8 players. Each table has an ante, which is also its minimum bet:
- Starter0.01 SOL
- Player0.02 SOL
- Gambler0.05 SOL
- Master0.1 SOL
- Overlord0.25 SOL
You sit with a buy-in from your balance. When you stand up, whatever is left of your stack goes straight back to your balance.
A round
- When every seated player is ready, each one pays the ante into the pot.
- Turns go clockwise. On your turn two posts are dealt face up. Ace counts as 1 and King as 13. If the posts are equal or next to each other they are dealt again.
- You have 15 seconds to bet or skip. Only the player whose turn it is can act.
- The kicker is turned over. Strictly between the posts wins. Equal to a post, or outside them, loses.
Your bet
| MIN | The ante. The smallest bet the table accepts. |
|---|---|
| HALF | Half of MAX, never less than the ante. |
| MAX | The pot or your stack, whichever is smaller. |
| CUSTOM | Any amount from MIN to MAX. |
| SKIP | Pass the turn. Nothing moves; the kicker is still shown. |
If the pot or your stack is smaller than the ante, Skip is the only move. Run out the clock and the table skips for you; after 3 timeouts in a row you sit out until you come back.
Wins, losses and the pot
- Win: you receive your stake from the pot, less the house fee on that stake.
- Lose: your stake goes into the pot for the next player.
- Skip: nothing moves. The kicker is still revealed so you can see what would have happened.
When the pot drops below the ante it is cleared: everyone antes again within 30 seconds to start a new pot, and anything left over carries into it.
The fee is 4% of a winning stake (2% for Goalpost holders, 1% for Druids). Losing and skipping are free.
Reading the odds
The gap between the posts is everything. With the posts out of the deck, 50 cards remain; every card of a rank strictly between the posts wins. The table shows your exact chance on every turn.
| Gap | Example posts | Winning cards | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | A and 3 | 4 of 50 | 8% |
| 3 | A and 4 | 8 of 50 | 16% |
| 4 | A and 5 | 12 of 50 | 24% |
| 5 | A and 6 | 16 of 50 | 32% |
| 6 | A and 7 | 20 of 50 | 40% |
| 7 | A and 8 | 24 of 50 | 48% |
| 8 | A and 9 | 28 of 50 | 56% |
| 9 | A and 10 | 32 of 50 | 64% |
| 10 | A and J | 36 of 50 | 72% |
| 11 | A and Q | 40 of 50 | 80% |
| 12 | A and K | 44 of 50 | 88% |
Fair play
The table server deals every card and runs the clock. Each hand's seed is published as a hash when the posts are dealt and revealed with the result, so a deal can be checked after the fact.
